It has been several weeks since I posted an article on the blog. The road trip takes us a lot of time, I don’t often have wifi, and with the current circumstances in Chile and in the world … Everything is very complicated. Anyway, before shutting myself up in a house in the heart of Chilean Patagonia, I stayed two days at the Tierra Patagonia hotel and spa in Torres del Paine. Here is the story of this totally unusual experience.
We have been traveling to South America for almost 3 months and we are going from discovery to discovery. For a month, we have been traveling the roads of Chilean Patagonia and hiking in the magnificent Torres del Paine National Park. We ended our visit with an extraordinary experience at the Tierra Patagonia hotel and spa. Here are the essential things to know about this extraordinary hotel.
TIERRA PATAGONIA, AN EXCEPTIONAL SETTING
The Tierra Patagonia hotel and spa is located just a few minutes from the entrance of Torres del Paine National Park. Voted best hotel in South America, it is also recognized by the very large Travel & Leisure magazine and National Geographic. Hidden on the shores of Lake Sarmiento, it offers incredible views of the park’s mountains.
The architect Cazú Zegers was able to integrate it perfectly into the surrounding nature by using local blond wood. The Tierra Patagonia strangely looks like a fossil placed on the ground, invisible from the road and from the lake. You can only see it when you get there. The hotel is a perfect reflection of what you could call “casual luxury”. The mountains change colors with the seasons.
At the end of winter, the thick white cape covering the three famous towers of the Park gives way to sumptuous granite. The landscapes are dotted with lupins in spring and the autumnal light gently illuminates the mountains. Of all the hotels I have visited since the start of this great social network adventure, this is one of the most beautiful and spectacular.
THE FEELING TO BE HOME
At Tierra Patagonia, I felt like I was in a refreshing and particularly endearing cocoon. All of the hotel’s rooms are spacious and offer views of the Torres del Paine mountains. It is even possible to observe the beds from the hot bath through the window overlooking the bedroom. The wood used in the bedrooms and the woolen carpets looks like Scandinavian decorations.
In the common areas, the atmosphere is so warm. It is possible to read or work in the library. The seats even allow you to lie down with a blanket and enjoy the view outside. There is also a games room with a TV and eggs to curl up in front of the Torres del Paine mountains. In short, everything is there to think that we are at home and that feels good.
SPA AND FOOD: THE BIG ASSETS
The Tierra Patagonia Hotel has a spa with an indoor infinity pool, as well as an outdoor jacuzzi. In each of the changing rooms there is a spa and a hammam. It’s perfect to relax. There are also several massage rooms with different types of treatments, for muscle pain as well as for relaxation or facial treatments. It is also possible to take yoga classes, morning and evening, with a teacher trained in India. The courses are suitable for all types of profiles and the courses at sunrise are ideal to start the day.
As for food, the restaurant offers a buffet in the morning for breakfast and menus for lunch and dinner. Everything is included in the stay. At breakfast, it is possible to vary the pleasures between granola, scrambled eggs and chocolate pancakes. There is also avocado, salmon, pastries. At lunch or dinner, it will be guanaco meat, lamb, beef or even Magallanes fish. You can also enjoy a signature cocktail at the hotel bar before dining. Try the gaucho, a cocktail made with vodka, Cointreau, infused maté and lemonade.
THINGS TO DO IN THE SURROUNDINGS
The Tierra Patagonia hotel is located at the gates of the magnificent Torres del Paine National Park. It is possible to make a day or half-day excursions. These are included in your stay. Hiking, kayaking on Gray Lake, bird watching, fishing, mountain biking, horseback riding … there is no shortage of activities.
As for hiking, I strongly recommend that you go to the Tres Torres. The path is very busy throughout the day, so be careful. It will take you approximately 7 hours to make the round trip. By the day, you can also go to Gray Lake or to the Mirador Britanico. Both offer spectacular views of the surrounding glaciers and mountains.
